CPU - 100%

Hello,
I have an Inspiron 9100 that performs at 100% CPU as soon as I start it up.
I've gone to msconfig and unchecked several programs I thought didn't belong
or were unecessary at start-up according to what I saw listed at sysinfo.org.
Nothing has changed. I've used Symantec to check for viruses both in normal
mode and safe mode. I have 512MB of RAM and 4CPU 3.20GHz 3.19GHz.

I've been monitoring my system processes and no program stands out among the
rest as being most consuming except taskmgr.exe. I see zapro.exe every now
and then near the top of the list for using the most percentage.

My computer just sent me this message as I typed this:

Microsoft had to close the following application:
Run a DLL as an App. I've never seen this before.

Any useful suggestions or help about this would be really appreciated. This
just started happening last week and has completely confused me.

Have you looked in the system and application logs for Warning and
Error Reports in Event Viewer for the last boot. These can be
difficult to interpret so post copies here. Disregard Information
Reports.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Your Issue may different from sarah , so please in the Future watch or create
anew Thread to your problem.
Do the following steps and see if your issue will resolved, your problem can
be a result of Spywares, plug-ins installed and causing this error, bad RAM,
badly written application installed and not releasing the Memory usage back
to the CPU .
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click OK to close the IE properties.
Then Open a run command and re-register these DLLs:
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
2... You need to be sure your system is clean from malwares and Viruses by
scanning for them.

3- You can test your memory by running Memtest to be sure the memory are
Okay and also less than 256 not enough it will be better if you have 512 MBs
if you have a hungry applications.

There some known issues with the version of urlmon.dll you have.
MS06-072: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925454

You might try uninstalling the update and reinstalling.

The easiest way out if it is a new problem is to use XP System Restore to
revert back to the most recent restore point before the problem started
happening. If you need to re-install updates or programs after the restore
do them individually to see if any of those trigger the problem again.

Alternatively you can turn on the Task Manager (right click your mouse while
over the clock in System Tray). It will show you what programs/processes are
using up the cpu cycles. Most processes should be using 00 or very low
numbers most of the time. Anything that is constantly or frequently showing
a high value is suspect. If you can't immediately identify the program
associated with the process names, a Google search will usually lead to an
identification of the offending software.
