CPU 100%

I am using Windows XP pro service pack 2.

My laptop is having 100% cpu usage very frequently. I don;t have any spyware
or any unwanted programs. When I visit certain websites the CPU usage goes to
100% till I close all the internet explorer windows. When I see the processes
I dont see any unwanted processes except for IE which us using almost 100% of
CPU.

I have HP dv4000 with 1.8 GHZ processor and 1 GB ram. On HP website there is
no solution for this problem

Any help?

Thanks

I would close one IE window at a time and pay attention to CPU usage.
When you see the CPU usage drop take note which page you closed. Some
webpages use flash advertisement banners that can eat a significant
amount of your CPU. Some pages try to run "live" by constantly updating
information that's presented on your browser; this can also eat a lot
of your CPU.

The CPU usage remains at 100% till I close all the Internet explorer windows.

I dont think I visited website with "live" content.

How do you know that you don't have a virus or adware/spyware ? The symptoms are indicative
of malware such as a BHO.

Additionally, have you tried using FireFox or Opera instead of IE ?

Have you scanned for viruses or spyware etc..

Messenger run's in the background (msmsgs). If you want to stop it
try clicking start/click run and typ
msconfig and click ok... You'll get
window, looking at the top right you'll see a tab marke
[b:9888b4f55c]start up[/b:9888b4f55c] click this to open, all th
boxes that are ticked are the programmes that are loaded at start up
you'll see some are stopped and some are running, look for msmsgs

I always advise keeping a note of the changes made here so you ca
always revert back. If you make any changes here you'll get a windo
popping up at boot up, simply click the box that say's don't use thi
again

For example.. If you stop MS word by unticking it's box it won't b
loaded at start up...but when you come to use it, it will take
couple of seconds longer to load up, because it isn't in the RA
waiting to be used

Yes , I did scanned my PC for viruses and adware using MS defender beta,
adware SE personal, and CA Anti virus. No BHO, adware or virus is present on
the PC.
