cpu usage

my cpu usage is 100% with no known programs running....on my windows
task manager, under processes, the image name SYSTEM is running around
96%
what is this SYSTEM and can I end process on it?

System & System Idle processes are file. Must be something else. What other
processes are huge in memory size?
