I have a Broadband connection. I have E-Donkey ,when I leave the pc to
download overnight in the morning the CPU is showing 100%. My downloads
have all but diminished and I have to unplug my modem to get any response.
Does any one have any ideas as to what might be causing me this problem....
Thx in advance.

Go to the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and click the Processes tab.
You can sort the CPU column by clicking on the column header. This
should reveal which process is sucking up all your CPU cycles.

When you find that out, post a follow-up and we can give you a little
more info.
