Ive been pretty happy with WinXP for the most part until recently.

process appears when I get on the Internet.

To temporarily resolve the problem I do a ...

c:>net stop wuauserv

.... after serveral minutes wuauclt.exe disappears
.... and then wmiprvse.exe disappears.

It takes several minutes for this to occur which I find unusual.

Then my CPU Usage returns to Normal.

My Windows Update System is setup on a NOTIFY ME BUT DO NOT DOWNLOAD
setting.

Im not sure whats going on. Any help is appreciated.

If you have any ideas plz let me know.

Why did you force XP onto a system that doesn't meet the absolute minimum
requirements for installation?

. PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed
recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD
K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

Ive been pretty happy with WinXP for the most part until recently.

To temporarily resolve the problem I do a ...

Thanks for your input.

I agree with the www.AnswersThatWork.com website that says most PC
troubleshooting issues boil down to either Virus' that are interfering
or background processes that are HOGGING computer resources.

I checked my system for Virus' and Im clean as far as I know.
That leaves background processes.

Somehow the Windows Update client is operating through Svchost.exe
process and is hoarding my CPU usage.
Automatic Updates is set to NOTIFYME BUT DONT DOWNLOAD.

I guess it would stand to reason that automatic updates Starts Up when
I get on the Internet to check for updates. Im going to Turn Off
Automatic Updates and do it totally manually.

Im postive its not csvc.exe or cidaemon.exe. I know their profile on my
system and usually boot them off if they become troublesome. Also you
can set how aggressive these tasks are in your setup which I have.

The good news is Im building a new P4 system from scratch. This should
eliminate overhead and resource issues.

Thanks again for your help.
