Has anyone had success in saving a cover page without the placeholders
dumping your input when you save.

Note that the content controls used as placeholders will be cleared unless
you save in the new Word 2007 file format.

You are going to have to be more specific - Cover Page for what?
Placeholders? Word version?
What exactly is it that you are attempting to do?
