Saving Building Blocks

I am trying to create a cover page using building blocks, but whenever I save
it, what I have typed in the [Type Author Name] and [Type Company Name]
placeholders dissappear and leave just the place holder. I'm doing it for a
class, and have heard that only the students with Vista are having this
problem. Is there a way to fix it?

The problem is that you are trying to add text to the the content controls
before creating your custom cover page. If you want the cover page to have
static text, just delete the content controls (you can right-click and
choose Remove Content Control from the context menu) and type in the text
before saving as a Cover Page building block.

The content controls on the cover page building blocks are bound to your
document properties. When you enter data in the content controls it also
updates your file properties. If the content is being removed when you save
the file then something is clearing your file properties. If it occurs in a
specific document, click the Office Button, click Word Options, click Trust
Center, then click the Trust Center Settings button. In the Privacy options
make sure "Remove personal information from file properties on save" isn't
selected.

(Hmmm...I thought I deleted my previous post before it left my Outbox. I
revised it after I realized I misread Katie's question. Sorry!)

The content controls on the cover page building blocks are bound to your
document properties. When you enter data in the content controls it also
updates your file properties. When you insert the cover page in a new
document these properties have not been defined and are blank. If you insert
the cover page in an exiting document that has a Title, Company, Author, etc
in the File Properties then the content controls will display that
information. The reason the content controls appear to "clear" when you
create the building block is because that's how it's designed to work. :)

If you are trying to change the placeholder/prompt text then on the
Developer tab, click Design Mode and then modify the prompt text. If you
don't see the Developer tab, click the Office Button, click Word Options,
and in the Popular group select "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon". Now,
they will still update the file properties and display the file properties
so if you're looking for static text then as Stefan noted, right-click the
control and then click Remove Content Control.
