Corrupted IE6 - stuck

Somehow IE6 became corrupted on my machine (I believe one
of my kids shut down 'improperly' which may have corrupted
IE6). The problem is that I cannot uninstall the old IE6
or install another version. I have 'uninstalled' using
'start, programs, add/remove' and tried removing the IE
files via 'my computer'. Oddly, when I try to remove the
IE files directly, they keep reappearing! I then tried
downloading IE6 service pack. The install seemed to work,
but I still get a message that 'an unexpected error occured
and IE has to shut down'. Of course I agree to send the
useless messages to Microsoft but these obviously do no
good to the end user. MS must receive millions of these
messages a day!

I give up. I am EASILY able to install Netscape and that
is what I am using as a browser.

I would like to use IE, but apparently MS doesn't allow
re-installs???

I have the same issue and even when Netscape is a great
browser some programs require an instance (specifically) of
the IE, not being able to load it the program crashes also.
This being Netscape set as default browser maintains.
IE should be like any other program, installavle and
uninstallavle, right now it seems that it has certain
special properties, because no matter if we Restore to a
previous point, the IE is not fixed.

I've had a similar problem recently. Try going to Microsoft's
website and downloading the IE6 for reinstallation.

If your version of Internet Explorer is too badly corrupted to
allow you to do this, then use Netscape or some other browser to
download a completely new version of IE6. Once you have it, run the
setup program and let it fix/replace the corrupted version. This
worked for me; it might work for you.
