Hello i have a problem with my windows XP. i purchased a WINXP CD off of ebay
(OEM of course) and everything is genuine however problem is that the CD
stops half way through installing due to corruption. i've tried running CRC
checks on it however its nearly impossible to replace each and every corrupt
file. i don't have my reciept (go figure) and since its a OEM i can't really
acquire any replacements from Microsoft nor the ebay seller. i can provide a
picture of the CD itself to show that i am a legal owner. is there any way i
can cure this problem? (i have 2 of these cases at the moment... 2 copies 2
COA's etc etc)

Apparently, the CD is bad. Next time, only purchase
Windows XP in a sealed box.

A lot a "counterfeit" CDs have showed up on-line. You will need to check
with Microsoft's piracy web site first so as to check in the CD, and COA,
are legit.

The only choice left to you now is whether to buy your new retail CD at CompUSA or Staples.

Does the disc you bought have the hologram? Never, ever buy and OS disc off
of eBay. 99.9% are bogus copies.

the CD was direct from Microsoft with Hologram and complete packaging
unforunatly Ebay seller doesn't allow returned open merchandise. it is legit
i have contacted Microsoft support by phone about it legit but they didn't
know how to respond besides saying not to purchase from Ebay. which i'm
guessing is a haven for americans selling counterfeit yet still hologramed
CDs?

99.9% of the Windows OS discs sold on eBay are pirated, and are *not*
legitimate. You got burned. Live and learn. In the future, only buy from
brick and mortar stores or legitimate online e-tailers such as NewEgg), who
have an exchange policy for defective software.
I would bet money that your disc, if you compared it to a legitimate disc,
would look significantly different. The pirates have not yet perfected
getting the hologram right.

Never buy anything from eBay without having exchange/return privileges. Any
seller that does not offer exchange/return privileges is selling pirated
software, which is what you bought.

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very
rare occasions the installation CD is the problem.

If the eBay seller sold you a defective product and refuses to refund
your money, file a compliant with eBay.

CD has been verified to have ALL Anti counterfeit measures, it does work half
way through installation however i had failed to report these problems to
seller in time of warranty so i couldn't exchange it now is there anyway to
replace them? i could slipstream a pirated OEM copy however i believe they
don't share the same serial code. i know that its illegal to report a way but
is there a cheaper alternative to buying a $80 CD just for a CD?

and one last time for the record it is *LEGIT* and its not scratched but the
Data on it is corrupt.

In that case you should contact Microsoft immediately. I am sure they would be chagrined to learn that one of their own CDs contains corrupt data. Be sure to post back and tell us what happens.

You could test your hardware with a live CD such as KNOPPIX
http://www.knoppix.org/ if it boots your hardware is most likely OK.
