Corrupt HDD?

I was just playing a game on my computer like any other day and suddenly my
system locks up. this struck me as odd because I had just reformatted
recently and had no problems other than a time where I was unable to access
my secondary drive. Anyway, Due to the freeze, I restart the computer and get
to see the Windows XP loading screen for about a second before it turns
black. I tried restarts and shut downs to no avail so I decided to reformat
it again. 4 times. After the format completes and the computer restarts it
never enters the windows setup and the screen will again turn black and
...thats it. I'm pretty computer smart and I've fixed tons of ahrd drivers but
I cant figure out whats wrong with this one. Maybe its just broken i dunno.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could possibly be a driver related problem. If you have any
display drivers on a cd for a graphics card that you bought you could try to
load those drivers during the OS install where is says something like 'Press
xxx if you need to load any external drivers'. Or maybe your graphics card
died.

I think that it's doubtful that it's a corrupt HDD since you can complete
the portion of the install off of the disk. Did you perform a complete HD
format or a minimal format, and did the format complete fine? Here's an idea
to rule it out - if you have another computer then remove the HDD from the
one that won't work and put it into the other tower in place of the existing
HDD and see if you can complete your install. These are just some ideas -
might be right, might be wrong.

Dan.
