Corrupt file

Hi...I am unable to start my son's computer...when window
loads I get a blue screen which doesnt stay very
long...but I was able to make out the following "the
registry cannot load the hive (files)"

I have looked on MS website and found some info...it says
I need to use the recovery console in Windows XP...my
question is how do I do that...I cannot click start and
run as it suggest because the computer never gets to that
point...its restarts and restarts after the blue screen
flashes....any suggestions?
