Hi , I just did the latest Windows XP updates and when I
re booted , for the first time I had to pick a computer
user to continue booting . It said pick a user on the
left on the right it said JOE(me).
I never had to do this before. HOw do
I get it back to just booting up without the extra step
of choosing a user (me) . Im the only user on
this comp . i have WIN XP PROFESSIONAL , 2.5 GHZ , 512
RAM .

pls reply here or to my email if you prefer
(e-mail address removed).

thanks

Joe

hi again the Start , Run wouldnt work when I typed
control userpasswords2.

if I do that will I have to put a password in and a name
everytime I log on ? And Im NOT using any password now
either .

thanks

If you use the control passwords2 utility, you will be able to boot straight
into windows using the user account of your chioce, in your case the Joe
account. You will not have to enter user name and password each time, it
will set xp to log you on automatically.

Go to Start - Run, run the line
control userpasswords2

In that uncheck the box 'Users must give a username', and Apply.

You will be asked for the user and password (if any) that is to be
assumed. Note that this means that anyone who comes by and switches on
is immediately logged on as you - which may of course not matter to you
