correct the dual boot win 98 and win xp

HI

i have at home win 98 but when i add win xp without
deleting win 98 , ( i install win xp on new folder ) , on
the startup screen i didnt find the dual boot choises but
i saw it on the setup procedures , i edit the file of
booting Sequance , i add the new line for booting win 98
refering to the folder that already had the installation
of it , but after i reboot and choose the win 98 line it
gives me the following message <<<"""windows could not
start because file missing , cant find hal.dll please
reinstall a copy of the above file""">>> , so how can i
install that file and have dual boot between both win 98
and xp on my pc , please for any body could help me i'll
appreciate so much

You need to install WinXP to another partion or another hard drive , not
just another folder, to get the dual boot option. If they are both in the
same partion on the same drive it will not work AFAIK

Hi Maged,

The error message indicates that the line you added is pointing in the wrong
direction. Please do the following:

- Open boot.ini and copy/paste the contents into a reply

- provide a physical description of your setup (hard drives/partitioning
schemes) and the location of the WinXP and Win98 system folders.

By the way, the easy way to add an installation is to boot the XP CD, load
the Recovery Console and run bootcfg /add.
