correct operating system scan

I am currently running Windows 2000 Professional. This is
confirmed. Yet, when I run any type of scan, my system
shows Windows 98 as being scanned. I checked "my computer"
and showing on the :C drive is Windows 98 also. When I
reboot, I definately am running Windows 2000 Professional.
I had a completely upgrade about 9 months ago by a
professional(?)so I do not have the software to do a re-
install. I have done the search for Win98 and nothing
comes up. My questions are these: 1) First and foremost,
how is this possible? How can I be running Win2000 yet my
system is not recognizing it? 2)When I download for any
update, is it going to my Win98 or to my Win2000? 3)How
can I find Win98 on my harddrive? 4) Can I take Win98 off
of my harddrive without affecting my Win2000? If so, how?
And, lastly, am I screwed and need to have a clean wipe
and intall??????????

What kind of "scan" do you mean?
If you were upgraded, you should have had to buy media/license - did this
person just use his/her own copy? You aren't running a legal copy of W2k Pro
if so - you'll need to buy one.
How did they do this upgrade? I'd talk to the person & ask.

Is it possiblw that your hard drive is labeled "Windows 98"? If that's
the case, the problem is cosmetic only. To relabel a drive, right-click
on My Computer and click Explore. If one of the entries in the resulting
Window says "Windows 98 (C:)", that's your problem. Right-click on that
entry and click Rename. You should noe have a box with just "Windows 98"
in it. Type whatever you want to change it to -- "Win 2000" perhaps --
and press enter. That's all there is to it.
