copying files

Bill H.

I'm having problems copying files to/from a win2k computer to a win98/winme
computer via network (F&PS, 10/100 nics and a 10/100 switch).

The files are really big, 2gb, and at some point in the copy process (using
windows cut and paste), the copy fails with a msg about "network connection
lost."

This happens whether I'm copying from win2k or from the win98 or winme
computers (the files reside on the win2k). Tried a command prompt window,
and that also fails, eventually, although I do not get any error msg there.

Smaller files copy quickly and just fine.

Hi Bill,

The cause for the issue may be because of a large amount of collisions
occurring during file transfers. In general, the problem is protocol
independent but will most likely be observed in TCP/IP environments. The
problem may also happen on Intel-based computers.

RESOLUTION
=============

Download the most recent drivers V2.60 or higher, from Digital's Web site.

Bill, also look at the article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;128797 , if you use
Digital routers.

Sincerely,

well, network is small home office, and the routers and hubs are all linksys
10/100 switches.

But, the computers are all Intel. :)

So I'm dead?

Interesting.

When I copy the same files to my Novell server (using ipx/spx) from the
win2k computer, they copy just perfectly, and then I can copy them back from
the server to the win98 computer with no timeouts or other problems.

Very strange why I can't copy directly!
