Copying cross-references in numbered lists

I'm writing long procedures (using Word 2003) which are quite repetitive and
contain a lot of cross-references between steps. Is there any way to copy a
set of numbered paragraphs and then paste it so that the cross-references are
updated.

For example, suppose I have a set of paragraphs
10. some stuff
11. stuff including a cross-ref to 10
12. some more stuff including a cross-ref to 11

If I copy these and paste them immediatey following 12, I get
13. some stuff
14. stuff including a cross-ref to 10
15. some more stuff including a cross-ref to 11.

What I'd like is for the cross-reference in 14 to refer to 13 and the
cross-ref in 15 to refer to 14. At the moment I have to go through the
pasted steps changing all the cross references, so an automatic way to do
this would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

While copying numbering paragraphs will repeat the text, it will (as you
have seen) continue the numbering. To create proper cross-references, use
Insert | Reference | Cross-reference.
