Copy/Paste changing font

When I copy text in a row within a table to paste in a row of another table,
the font always changes to Times New Roman. Both tables are Arial, my
default font is also Arial. What is causing the pasted text to show up in
Times New Roman? I'm using Word 2000. Thanks in advance for any assistance
provided.

If you are not using styles (i.e. everything is in normal style with direct
formatting), then if you copy part of a paragraph and exclude the final
paragraph mark (which stores the format information for that paragraph),
when you paste it into the middle of another paragraph, Word doesn't know
which format you want, so it reverts to its built in default (TNR 12pt in
Word 2000). In later versions of Word, this behaviour has been changed, but
ultimately it is an illustration of why it is best to use styles and not
normal.dot with direct formatting for everything.
