Copy and paste non functional

I recently ran my mcafee virus scan, window washer, ashampoo.... to get my
computer running efficiently. Now I notice that when I attempt to copy and
paste, the item I am copying results in only the letter "a" showing when I
hit paste?
What have I done? Any ideas?
 
Does copy and paste of text work in other programs such as Word or Notepad?
I'm thinking your clipboard has been disabled somehow. Still an issue after
a reboot?
