I can't copy and paste equations

I am trying to do a very simple copy and paste of a simple formula in Excel 2007 and nothing seems to be working. When I press crt+c the copied cells don't get highlighted and when I copy the equation just the number with no equation appears. The result that I obtain using copy and paste is the same if I was using copy and paste special/values.

When I try to paste special, the only two options are Unicode text and Text.

There is just one spreadsheet open.

How can I paste the equations normally?
