What does it have to do with Windows XP? At the least you should ask in
the Internet Explorer group.

No but there are enough people using this NG to at least ask for
feedback on their experiences of using cookie managers.
There are all sorts of questions posted here.
If posters are always referred to a specialist NG when asking a
question, I suggest removing the word GENERAL from this group.

If using IE, then the built-in Cookie management is very good. It allows
configuration with global allow/block and prompt for both 1st/3rd party
cookies.

One reason you see more "Redirects" on questions is now that Windows
Vista is released responders are trying to keep Vista questions in the
proper NG. Some answers that apply to XP may not function the same
for Vista. Not everyone is familiar with the various MS newsgroups and
how to find their specific product.

Really the only two big topics that don't have their own specific NG are:
1.) Use Linux, not Windows
2.) Vista is _____

Thanks for a more intelligent reply.
Thing is, I'm using IE7 and am a bit wary of using "delete cookies". It
sounds a bit final. Like most people I have cookies I want to keep for
auto logging in to various sites.

What I use is Block all 3rd Party Cookies and on 1st Party use prompt.
This way over time, I can selectively allow/block Cookies for sites I am
willing to place a cookie and block others. Currently, I've got 784 sites
that can save cookies on my PC. This is out of probably 2500 sites I've
visited over the past 6 months. Some users don't put much thought into
Cookie handling and end up with lots of data tracking/collection cookies.
That's one advantage of AdAware it's really good at identifying the sites
that are using your PC for marketing/data mining.
