All,

I ordered an english OS with a laptop but needed a french OS for this
specific client. What do you recommend.

I have a french OS CD, could I pop it in and re-install over it and not
loose all settings.

Any comments welcomed.

Your only option is to purchase a "Full French Version" of
Window XP and perform a "Clean Install". Afterward, you
need to visit the laptop manufacturer's support web site to
obtain the specialized laptop drivers in French.

You can dual boot both OS. You will need to create a
partition and your French CD must be a full install.

do I need a full or upgrade version. Can I use the XP pro english to
upgrade.

Thanks

There is NO upgrade from one language to another. You need
a full install retail version to setup a dual boot.

BTW, you should set your Gmail address to something munged
because you have invited the harvest bots to send you a ton
of spam and viruses.

Q. "Can I use the XP Pro English to upgrade?"

A. No, you need a "Full French Version" since a different
language version is not acceptable as a qualifying
version.

Thanks for the tips on my email... I am using google group beta and did
not find a way to hide or change my email... This is ok, since that
email is for that purpose only.

For XP english to french, I suspected I needed to re-install from
scratch. Too bad.

Thanks to all

Google's GMail beta is fine, I have an account too. But I
use Outlook Express for my newsgroup reader and simply
entered an altered email address. I have not tried the web
interface, but I think you can do the same.

You can use your GMail account to create another "private"
email for your secure use.

As I said before, if you need to keep the English XP and
also have a French language version, use a partition manager
(Partition Magic, or other third-party software) to create a
new partition on the hard drive (at least 10 GB, 20 would be
better) and do a clean install on that new partition, no
need to alter the English version or its settings.
