We have an intern from France, with a Dell laptop loaded
with the French version of XP. The SBC DSL disk won't spin
up and SBC Helpdesk says that any english software will
have trouble loading until I add a "os translation" pack
from Microsoft.
Does anyone have any information about that?
Thanks in advance.

Is it NECESSARY to have the software installed at all to use the DSL?

That is a good point [NECESSARY] and I'm not sure. MCSE
w/Win2000 but a little lost in XP. I do know that XP will
add pppoe but where does it capture username/pw to pass on
to SBC and can it handle French to English? This is prety
interesting for me, I'm trying to use an operating system
I don't know very well and it is in a language I don't
know at all. :-)

Points taken. heh

I have not seen a case where (other than driver software) it was necessary
to have the proprietary software installed to connect to the Internet.
However, I too would be talking without experience in the matter because I
do not know how every ISP would set up their configuration.

This would be the point where I would call and ask for a few techs to talk
to and find out if Windows XP just has the ability to use their service
without having to install some "foreign" (pun. heh) software?
