Convert a .mov file

a way to convert this clip to a format that will play on a DVD player that
will play only the following: DVD, CD, MP3, Picture CD, CD-R, CD-RW?

Try RAD Video Tools freeware from http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

Or the trialware EO Video from http://www.eo-video.com/

Either will convert the MOV format clip to AVI format which you can then
re-encode to DVD compatible format.

In fact i think - but am not sure - that EO Video will convert a MOV format
video directly to a DVD compatible format.

Quicktime - a registered copy - will also export a MOV format video to AVI
which can then be encoded to DVD compatible format.
