I have a similar problem. I have Win2k pro. I don't know how it happened

Notepad.exe session, "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax

Try running the System File Checker:
Start>Run>sfc /scannow [enter]

You may need your XP cd. Note that there is a space between "sfc" and
"/scannow".

Go to start > Run
Type appwiz.cpl in the box.
If this doesn't work, you may need more help than I can give, but check your
account type. I believe you need administrator privileges to access this.

Try repairing Internet Explorer.

For IE6 run this command:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt

for IE5 run this:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt

Dan,

Try extracting a new copy of mshta.exe to the %Windir%\System32 folder.

Sorry for the Cross-post but it was topical so I figured it would be ok.

This MSHTA is really getting to my last nerve... ;) Where might one get a
"newer" version of the MSHTA?

---------------------------
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Repair
---------------------------
Internet Explorer 6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:

Version 5.0.2140.1 of file MSHTA.EXE exists, but the version needs to be
greater than 6.0.2800.1100.

---------------------------
OK

Hi Danny,
No harm, no foul. I like to hear others input on problems. I was just trying
to address a very narrow problem that was occuring so that the bigger
problems could be addressed. During my semi retirement days, I'm working on
some simple Network/Computer Administration tools to help those that don't
know much about either. Reading these forums are helping me focus solutions
in the tools that I'm developing.
