Control Panel/Add Hardware error message

M

Molicent

When I click on 'Add Hardware' in Control Panel, I get an
error box titled "Cannot Run Two Device Installations"
and saying

"You can only install one device at a time. Another
device installation is unerway, when it is finished you
can try this wizard again."

There is no other installation in progress and I
therefore have no idea why this error appears or how to
get rid of it. I can only guess that perhaps a remnant
of some previous unfinished installation is the problem,
but I don't know how to investigate further.

Any help appreciated.

The message means that an installation program was interrupted during an installation and XP thinks it has to complete the installation. All I can suggest is to use a program called HDValet and use it to remove all temporary folders, all install folders, etc. Once this is done, XP should be clean. You also could try Powertools from www.jv16.org to clean up the registry.

Source of HDValet is:

about 2 mbs download---but quite quick!

Does a good job in reducing rubbich on drives.

XP is still being recalcitrant!! However 01.05.03

Hope this helps!
