Continuous boot up

When I turn on the computer, I get the normal black XP
screen and then I get the hp blue screen for 8 seconds,
then the BIOS screen for a blink of an eye. Then it starts
all over again. Hit F8 till I finally got to where I could
got into safe mode, but it was still a black screen, not
the usual safe mode. I go the Windows Adavned Options
Menu and tried everything but nothing fixed the problem.

This is my boss' computer and he says he turned the
computer off rather than shutting down. Could this be a
contributing factor? He obviously knows nothing about
computers. The other problem is XP came loaded with the
computer and we don't seem to even have a recovery disk.
Suggestions?

Yes, the fact he simply turned it off rather than shut down is the likely
cause of the problem.

Since you don't have a disk, you likely have a recovery partition, either
check the HP documentation on how to recover or contact HP tech support.
