Contacts folder does not open

Office XP Outlook: The contacts folder suddenly does not open and a notice
comes that it has encountered problems and needs to close. Offers to inform
Microsoft.
Have restarted computer, used repair facility of Office XP etc. but nothing
is working. Cannot open the contacts folder, where I keep all my e-mail
addresses.
 
Have you tried running scanpst.exe against the file? If that doesn't work,
try a new mail profile. How many contacts do you have in the folder?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Contacts folder does not open asked:
