Contacts and Address Book not showing up

I am not able to see my contacts, when I am trying to select members for my
distribution list or for sending an email. How do I enable my contacts to
show up under "Select Members". "Show Names from the" and then the drop down
menus says "contacts or address list". Any help would be greatly
appreciated. It is driving me cray! Thanks.
