Contact groups

How do I get my contact groups from OE to Win Mail? I have tried exporting
contacts as a csv and importing but none of the contacts in the groups were
imported at all. So I cant even rebuild them manually.

Dont want to be sarcastic but vista is a real disappointment - it's like xp
not as good. And why isn't it easier to migrate OE settings?

Also have a question about contacts, but can't this to post a new thread.
I want to know how to keep contacts from automatically being added from
incoming emails and sent emails. I want to add them manually.
Thanks

In Outlook Express all your contacts were stored in a .WAB file. When you
open WAB in XP if you go to the "Help" menu it should tell you where the
file's at. you can import that file directly just by opening it on Vista
(default action is to import). That should work for you. The other
import/export options don't include the group data.

Hope that helps.

didn't work. the wab included only the contacts that I could export anyway.
The contacts in groups were not part of the wab.

Weird... The groups should have been included if you imported directly from
the .Wab file. If the contacts in a group aren't part of your address book,
e.g. they're just name-email pairs inside the group, then they won't become
contacts as part of the import, but they should still be available within
their respective group.

Are you seeing all your contacts from the WAB file (other than the
name-email pairs) are imported but not the groups? this WAB file if you were
to open in on XP does contain all the information you expect, yea?

I dont know what you mean by name-email pairs.

If I open my address book there is a folder for my contacts. below this
folder I have 4 contact groups. If I double click on these I can see the
groups properties and each of these has multiple members. These group members
are NOT included in my contacts and are not in the .wab export.

Hence I cant even rebuild the groups.

From what I just tried in OE6...

If you create groups, and add contacts to the group, they should be
exported.
But, if you create folders below your Identity, and add contacts to those
folders, then those contacts don't get exported.

Maybe someone else knows where they are stored...

Groups do not export from the WAB. Also it is possible to have contacts in
a group but not in the main lust. These will not export.
