Connection problem with Linksys router

I am currently experiencing a relatively new problem that I have not been
able to resolve. I have a Windows XP Home edition with SP2 installed on a
home network linked to a Linksys router (BEFSR41) with the most recent
firmware installed. I have PC-cillin Internet Security running with the
firewall enabled.

The problem exists only on one of my three machines. I am losing the
ability to communicate with the router twice a day. I haven't been able to
isolate the exact time but the first drop occurs during the time I am at
work (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) and the second is after going to bed for the
evening (10:00 pm and 5:00 am). The connection to the router can be
reestablished by simply logging off and logging on (a reboot also works but
isn't necessary).

I have tried the following to try to resolve the issue:

1. Exchanged ports with another computer on the router.
2. Installed a separate network card.
3. Turned off PC-cillin.
4. Change the lease timing on the router.
5. Updated the firmware on the router.
6. Deleted the Noexecute=xxxxx command
7. Enabled the MTU setting to 1500

On an ipconfig /all and during the failure, everything appears to work
except an internet page can not be displayed nor can I bring up the
configuration page on the router. I can ping successfully everything that
can be pinged (i.e., the router, yahoo.com, my work server, etc.) however
none of the pages can be displayed on the browser. I have tried
unsuccessfully with both Internet Explorer and Netscape. I believe this
began somewhere around the time that I did the SP2 upgrade however, I can't
say absolutely this was the culprit. I do know that it didn't happen
before.

It appears to me to be a machine or router (and probably machine) related
issue but I cannot isolate it much closer than this. I am sure I have left
out some of the things that I have tried to resolve this but just can't
remember all of them. The bad thing is that it takes several hours to see
whether or not things worked or in my case, haven't worked.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, in advance,

Dan Johnson

I beleive this is the router(BEFSR41), i know many people with this router
and I have one too and use to do this to me all the time. I also had the
lastest Firmware and UPnP enabled. I use to pull the plug on the router for
about 5 seconds and it seemed to work. Bought a new router and it woeks
perfect.

Did you lose connectivity with only one computer or with all? I am only
having problems with one of the computers on the router and I changed the
port with one of the working computersand still had the same problem.
However, at this point, I wouldn't rule out any possibility. I just hate to
spend the money, if that isn't the problem.

With all, alot of the time it would lose it ability to act as a DNS server
and assign me the APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing). So your computer
assigns you a address of 169.254.XXX.XXX.
