Connection blues

hi there, have been encountering an irritating problem on my machine.It has
win 2k sp4.It shows the connection in the tray but am unable to ping to other
machines.Unless and untill i take the rj-45 connection out and put it back
in, I cant connect to the network and cant ping anyone.But all the while the
LAN icon says its connected and shows the speed of connection(100mbps)
..Anyone got the answer?
 
could be a service pack 4 issue. I've seen this problem a few times.
 
thanx for reply craig.So what should I do ? Uninstall Sp4.?any other useful
solution?
