Randomly losing connectivity

T

Tiago Nunes

Hi,

I've got a problem in a W2k Server SP4 installed.
I have 2 network cards one connected to the internet, the other connected to
internal LAN.

Everything works great except that sometimes,, in a randomly timeframe
behaviour my connectivity is lost.
If I ping myself no problem but I can't ping trough the internet card
neither the lan card.
Problem only goes away with a reboot.

I tried to disable the lan card and the problem persisted.

I'm going nuts here, don't seem to find any problem...
Any help weel be welcome!

thanks!

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if there are any clues to be found
there?

Yes,

everything is ok, please notice that both interfaces ( LAN / Internet ) lose
connectivity at the same time.
My cable modem is fine (I phoned my ISP and they could reach it), link led
is on, everything looks ok.
Then I reboot and everything is back to normal, for another random period of
time.

I couldn't establish a pattern for connectivity loss the only article that i
found that seemed related in the internet was this one:

http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-11184-0.html?forumID=39&threadID=154144&start=0&tag=search

but I have the last available IE and the problem persisted.

I have another computer with XP that plugged to the same cable modem shows
no problem at all.

How are the NICs set up exactly? ipconfig /all please

I don't have access to the machine right now, but I can give some info (that
i can remind) on that (I'll post the ipconfig /all info asap)

I have 2 NIC
1 - SURECOM (Internet) and 1 - winbond (LAN) both PCI
The surecom is connected to the cable modem and has DHCP enabled, getting ip
address and everything else automatically.

The winbond passed several states of testing, with my problem persisting:
1 - DHCP enabled (but cable to LAN disconnected) - problem existed
2 - Disabled - problem existed
3 - fixed ip address 192.168.1.1 net. mask 255.255.255.0 no dns nor gateway-
problem existed

Hope this helps...

thanks,
TN
