Connecting with Remote Desktop

Does one need to input and IP address or similar when connecting Remote
Desktop over the internet (not using Web server) from say one country to
another? None of the articles I've read mention this . only the naming of the
cliente PC etc. Both PCs run XP PRo. And does Norton system works Firewall
interfere?

No. You can use DNS name if it resolves to a proper IP.

Any working firewall can interfere if it blocks TCP port, on which RD
operates.
