I'm trying to connect my Win98 PC to my Win2000 laptop via NIC cards. The
lightbulbs are on in both PCs so I know they're connected. The problem is
that one PC cannot access the other one. They're both in the same workspace
and I was told that in both I had to log on with the same username and
password in order for this to work.
Also, does it matter which PC you turn on first?

Thanks.

On the Win2000 PC, start a Command Prompt, then type this
command:

ipconfig /all > c:\ip.txt

On the Win98 PC, start an MS DOS Prompt, then type this
command:

ipconfig /all > c:\ip.txt

Now post the contents of each of these files in your reply.

Are you using a crossover ethernet cable?

for direct PC NIC to PC NIC connections, you will need a crossover cable for
it to work properly or use a small hub of some kind.

If you search the web, you will find plenty of companies that can supply you
with crossed ethernet lead or you should also be able to find the pinouts so
you could make your own up.

Thanks
Andy
