Hi

I got this new 5.25 inch card reader with three usb port, 1 firewire, 3 channel audio input and it can read different memory cards.

I have not connected the firewire yet , it looks so hard as does the 3 channel sound. Will do these later. It is powered up by a molex connector.

I am having trouble getting the USB headers connected to the motherboard here are the colours and corresponding parts:

Black: GND
Green: D+
White: D-
Red: VCC

Please see below for the pictures.
I don't seem to know how to connect these four pins up to the board correctly, partly because I am not sure if I am reading the numbers of the USB port on the motherboard correctly.

ie which pin is number 6 or 5...

Please could you tell me which colour goes on which pin number
also stating the location of that pin. It is confusing me.

picture of the memory card reader.

another picture of the memory card reader

picture of the usb connector on my motherboard from the manual book

picture of the pins on the motherboard, here is the problem
i dont know what colours connect to which pin and if im getting the pin numbers right:

an attempt to put the pins into the board but it didnt work.
i noticed that when connecting like this nothing happend except I got a light on my memory stick

please look at this one these are the pins from the motherboard itself
here is the problem

the connectors for the firewire
you should see the connectors for the sound part if u think this is tough
CONFUSED.com: lol

sorry if the pictures are too big I forgot what size I set them up on.

I have noticed for starters you have all connections on the bottom?

Turn the book round to suit the angle of the motherboard mate. Thts the problem with these damn things never straight forward.

Tudn book round so it match the same as the motherboard the look at pins.
they usally go like this

for example

1 3 5 7 0
2 4 6 8 9

Where the pin is missing thats usually the NC = Not connected

1 and 2 are your power which is red

3 and 4 5 and 6 are signals ie send and recieve there should be a label telling you which colours represent TX or RX

TX = transmit or send RX = Receive or return

7 and 8 are your GND or Grounds = Black wire

In your picture they look like Dx- and Dy- and Dx+ and Dy+?

Of course the black is common or ground return for the voltage
On that label on cable I can see somehting what is it?

I cant really tell from your pictures though mate very blurry!

It standard as far as I know on all board so heres a pic of mine to help you out mate

Have you checked out the latest bios updates for your mobo ???
I had a usb stick that would not work on a friends pc but worked on my pc . Turned out the usb was supposed to be usb 1.0 and 2.0 but it would only work on full usb 2.0 boards . The friends pc did not support usb 2.0 . Got around the problem by getting them a new pc .

:D

Its better to work internaly on pc's with the power of and the mains cable detached from the pc . If you slip with a tool you could cause a short on the board and damage it if you have the power on . Its your gamble and no I won't swap a mobo for some stamps if you need one so don't ask .Mind you if they were pretty christmas stamps You may persuade me .

i spent hours last night trying to get this usb business to work
so frustrating

I know!
I am very confused too.

I might try it on another board, but I think that board has a mashed up USB connector.
