To use a USB cable to for file sharing, similar to the Ethernet cross-over cable. You will need to purchase USB cable designed for this. The standard USB cable is not designed to do this, you can purchase one at the following sites:

1. http://www.usbgear.com/link/usbnetwork.html
2. http://www.auctionelf.com/usbnetcab.html
3. http://www.usb-network.com/

These are few, or you can do a Google search for "USB Network Cable". Why not just buy a Wireless Router, so you can share files and internet service.

The USB cable is your fast solution to peer-to-peer file transfer between
two computers via the USB port. It provides true plug-n-play capability
while transferring files at much greater speed than traditional file
transfer products via serial or parallel port. You get around 2 to 5 Mbps of
smooth file transfer rate. This application program, a Windows Program
Manager-like user interface, provides a very easy-to-use environment that
makes file transfer as easy as drag-and-drop.

If you run out right now and go to CompUSA and purchase a HWR54G Wireless-G 4 Port Router, 802.11b, g, for $69.99 there is $65.00 worth of rebates if purchased today 08/13/2005. So the final cost would be $4.99. You will need to purchase an Ethernet straight through cable for about $10.00. The price of wireless routers have come down a lot.

I personally have a D-Link 624 wireless router, and I also have a Belkin wired router, I have no problems with any one of the brands, and would recommend them.

When you are looking for wireless routers you will see that some will say they have 108MB/sec transmit speeds. That is only true if the wireless card you have installed your laptop (or PC), is rated for 108MB/sec.

The original post in this thread is the closest thing I was able to fined in
regard to question I have! So I am posting here hoping you are able to help.

I need to transfer certain items like "Outlook Exp" or "My Documents" etc.
from a Win98 PC to a WINXP Pro. PC. And I want the various files from Win98
end up in the same place in WinXP computer. So all items in Outlook Exp.
should end up in Outlook Exp. in WinXP. How do I do this.

Thanks
