Connecting Outlook 2003

Jeff

I have two questions:

1) I cannot get Oultook 2003 Beta 2 to connect with an
Exchange 2003 server. The problem is not the server - I
even moved the mail box from server to server with the
same result. Outlook XP works just fine. However, I get
an error message every time when attempting to connect
via the LAN with the Exchange server to the effect that
either the server name could not be resolved (not true!
works with OLXP!) or "can't connect" or some such. I have
tried resolving this problem with diabling the IP on the
NIC and also 'fixing' the RPC registry settings. Neither
worked. Is there annother fix I could try?

2) Since Oultook 2003 Beta 2 supposedly (I've never seen
it...) has much better remote mail capabilites, can a new
profile be created on a machine which is outside a
firewall and connected to the Exchange 2003 server with
all but ports 80 & 443 blocked? My first instinct
is 'no', but...

Thanks.

no idea on 1)

on 2) RPC over HTTP works (been using it for a few months), which enables
Outlook to connect to Exchange over HTTP (80 or 443) It's somewhat iffy to
setup though, since there isn't much documentation - I just installed B2TR
on one of my test clients and now can't get the RCP over HTTP part to work
anymore.

I forgot to add something else weird: When I connect with
the server via IMAP, I can connect and download the
folder list. However, since I have a large mailbox with
many folders it takes a long time. During that time,
Outlook 2003 inevitably crashes. It never finished
downloading the folders. Has anyone successfully
connected OL2k3 B2 w/technical refresh to Exchange 2003
sever via IMAP through a firewall? Outlook Express
(newest version) also has some dificulties but those
don't usually crop up unless I've used it for at least 15
minutes. Outook usually crashes within 2 or 3 minutes.

Is this just me? ...
