Connecting NT4.0 and W2K domains together

All,

I have a need to create a new file server, that should be
accessiable from Either my W2K or NT domain. My W2k and NT
4.0 domains are both seperate and not connected at this
piont. The box will be connected to both server, 1 Cat5
for W2k and 1Cat 5 for NT4.0. My question is, Is there a
way to be able to logon to either of the 2 domains on this
box. Can a box be a member of 2 domains? If so How do I go
about setting this up? I have seen in the past, at the
logon screen where you are able to use the drop down box
to specify witch domain to logon to , but I have never do
this my self.

TIA

D.J.

Yes you can, but you may need to setup a trust between 2000 and NT, and
depends what OS is for your file server you choose, and which domain is it
to belong to.

Watch for the caveats, like in 2003 for functional levels - I am not sure if
there are for 2000 as I went straight to installing 2003 server in native
mode (2000) - I guess not but check.
Yes, if the machine is on the same network your computer browser should
allow you to connect to either on the server, if all is working hunky dory.
May be other network considerations you obviously need to make (single DHCP
server serving both etc??). Im no expert at this, Ive frigged and got 2003
to work perfectly in my environment INCLUDING a 2000 server DC (after some
heartache). I'd also patch and backup at all stages, I hate it when you
patch and then find you've killed something.
That happened to some dell workstations I had recently because of SP4 -
which killed one of the machines hardware drivers. I didnt realise but
windows update has an updated driver anyway for that particular dell card.
So im found to patch first, ask questions later :)

BTW: You can setup a trust, but NO to belonging to TWO domains - thats why
you need the TRUST.

Tony is absolutley correct. Here is a step by step on how to create the
trust if you need it.
