Connecting a turntable to ATI Rage 128 AIW

Hello, First time Trying to record Albums with ATI Capture
Card....Connected the turntable to the Reciever, and then connected the
Tape outputs to the Audio inputs on the ATI Capture inputs.... Problem it
recorded audio as mp2 no other choices...Playback was distorted ... any help

You don't need to use a capture card to record sound. Just plug into your
sound cards line in and use a sound recording program. You can set the
recording level.

Nero and CD Creator have applications that do this.

why are you plugging it into a *video* capure card ?

just plug it into the line in on your sound card....
also, turn down the output volume on your turntable
also volume for line in

Can you plug a turntable straight into a soundcard? It's been a long time
since my vinyl record days, but I know that every turntable I owned had a
ground wire that had to be hooked up to my amp. Otherwise all I'd hear is a
loud hum. JLC

about as much as you can plug it into a video capture card lol
the headphone jacks which soundcards use have left, right, earth connectors
in them i think

This is the first time I've ever heard of someone wanted to jack a turntable
straight into their PC. I'd run it through my amp then run the amp into my
soundcard. A turntable was a very low line level volume. I just don't know
how it would work. I'd really like to hear from guys that have done it. TIA.

Hooked it up thru the amp tape out to comp sound line it records but
playback is echoee distortion had input levels low...need to control input
levels somehow. Later

Thanks for the link. It's been a lot of years since I had to deal with a
turntable, but I do know you have to have some type of preamp between the
turntable and the PC. JLC

If the turntable has a built-in pre-amp in/phono out switch, set the switch
to pre-amp in, and connect it directly to the soundcard in jack. Works
fine.

Audio video receivers these days don't even have the option for a turntable.
When I replaced mine it blew me away to find out a receiver with like 100+
connectors on the back had no turntable connections.
There voice tech support says I need some kind of pre amp (forgot) and use a aux
or vcr/tape-3 input for my turntable. grrrr

Ah, that makes me even more happier with my Philips FR-995 ;-) Indeed one of
the very few modern DTS receivers that still featured a phono in...

You may be able to do that if the turntable has a ceramic cartridge but it
may not be enough amplification for a magnetic cartridge.
With everyone going to Dolby it shouldn't be difficult to find a used
receiver with a phono input for cheap. Less than buying a new preamp I would
think. Come to think of it my old receiver could be used as an input switch
too.
