Connecting 2 networks

I have two seperate networks in two physically different locations. Both have broadband internet connections. I would like one of the networks to be able to view data on the other so that they can run applications that have a database on a different physical network

I would like to make this as transparent as possible so that it just looks like another shared drive on the network making it easier to work with the software

I have so far considered VPN but this is not for roaming users it is more for a hard line into the seperate offices

What kind of setup are people using to perform this

Is there any kind of reference architecture for doing this sort of thing

PS. The applications are using paths to the database and are not web based applications with web servers

Thanks in Advance

Marty

of course vpn's are for roaming users! just need to give them some kind of
smart card etc
a vpn should be perfect for your needs once it's setup
this should help
