Connect to network printer

P

Peter A

I have a Brother HL-5250DN on my home network and it works fine. Now I
want to use that printer from a laptop provided by my employer. Because
this is a company laptop it is not part of my home network's workgroup
and the printer does not show up when I browse for network printers.
According to Windows help I have to specify the printer's URL but I have
no idea what this is or how to find it.

Help!

Thanks,

A

Is the printer shared from another machine?

\\machine\printersharename would be the format but you will need to verify
correct security settings.

If the printer has a network card, create a local printer using a Standard
TCP/IP port to the IP address of the device.

The printer is not shared from another machine - it is connected via
ethernet to the router.

I am afraid that the rest of your message is Greek to me - if I knew how
to do these things I would not be posting <g>!
