configuring SUS clients

I keep getting this message when I try to install the SUS
client program (WUAU22.msi) on Windows 2000 Pro and it
will not let me install...

The message reads: "Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update
requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP"

The systems I am installing it on is a Windows 2000 SP3
system. Does this message mean that you cannot install
this on anything other than a Win2k SP2 or WinXP system?
I would interpret the message to mean that you can
install it on SP2 or higher, but that does not seem to be
the case... this would seem to be totally useless if you
cannot use it on a system that is SP3...

So, whats the deal here? Does this thing work, or not?
Anybody got any ideas?

Same here - except I'm trying to install it on a XP Pro SP1 system.

Yes. It means just what it says.
The updated wuau client is included in W2k Sp3 and 4
and in XP Sp1
 
It installed as part of XP Sp1 so no separate install is
needed nor allowed.
 
Sorry - forgot to mention that you will possibly
want to update the wuau.adm however especially
if the XP are outside of any AD domaim
