configure address book

In my contacts address book dialog box, I get two listings
for each contact - one with their SMTP email address and a
second with their FAX number. I don't want an entry with
their FAX number. Also, is there any way I can select
which fields/columns appear in the dialog box?

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

Well then, if not in this version of Outlook, then how
about next version? (At least the "(E-mail)" after
display names is gone in 2003).

It is really lame that one can't display email addresses
ONLY when sending an EMAIL. I understand that some users
may need to choose whether to send a message by
email or fax, but I would hazard that a majority would
prefer to see email info ONLY. The workarounds involving
moving the fax info to another field or putting text in
the fax field just mess up other databases (like PDAs)
that are synched to Outlook.
