Could someone please help me configure sound in XP. i am not able to play
any music. I get the following message, "Windows Media Player cannot play
the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not
be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another
program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Hi,

Click start, select run and type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and
click Ok.
The device manager should open. This will have a list of devices installed
in your computer. Check if you have anything like "Multimedia audio
controller" is listed with a (!) mark. See if you have any devices listed as
unknown or with a (!) mark.
Contact your PC manufacturer and get the latest audio drivers for XP and
install them. This should fix the problem.
