Having recently experienced a house fire where i lost my pc, I have been
uploading a backup cd of office 2003 onto my new pc but when i try & open any
of the components i get an error message stating "the operating system is not
presently configured to run this application" is there anyway i can configure
my XP home edition to run Office as before?

When you install a program to XP the program adds many entries to XP's
registry, without these entries your programs will not run.

If this backup CD is a backup of the the directories that were under
"Program files" then the possibility of having these programs actually
function is very low if not non-existant.

You need to get the install CDs for your software.
