Computerfreeze & warning when installing Logitech Quickcam Messeng

The computer runs XP Pro.
The software is QuickCam 8.4.1
I get A message saying 'Microsoft stongly recommends that you stop this
installation.....& contact the software vendor for software that has passed
the Windows Logo testing'
What is Windows Logo?
The computer freezes and neither option (Continue or Stop) works. Any idea
why?

Means (essentially) the company that wrote the software did not send it to
Microsoft and pay them to test it and make sure it won't cause issues with
Windows XP. Usually nothing to be concerned with - as it is far from
uncommon.

http://www.microsoft.com/winlogo/software/default.mspx

The latest version of that software is actually 8.4.8 build 1034A - so you
might get that from the Logitech website and use it instead.. Likely to get
the same message however.

I do not know why your computer is freezing - not enough information
really - but I do have to ask what you do to normally maintain this system?

Please state what system maintenace you practice. And, if you are
actually following the directions to Shutdown all Background apps prior
to installing new ware.

Do you have the very latest software for your QuickCam? Have you followed
the instructions to turn off antivirus protection and any real time anti
spyware protection you have on your computer "before" installing the
software? Did you leave the WebCam "disconnected" until told to connect the
camera during the software install?

There is an awful lot of information you did NOT state, and until you do we
will not know if you even installed the software as per the manufacturers
instructions.

Trouble shooting at this point becomes almost impossible - until you install
using the required methodology.

Richard, Shenan and Plato,
Thanks very much for trying to help me.
I have done all you mention. I then uninstalled the software and tried to
download the latest from the Logitech site with the same result.
I have since had an email from Microsoft that say this camera model is not
supported by drivers included in XP so I will be able to exchange the camera
for another at my local, small friendly shop.
It's pity I had to lose a day of my life to find this out.

I have only had the computer a month and know very little technical stuff
about them. What is maintenance, and any further advice welcome?

Spookily I have received a pop up from Logitech as I write, so thanks again
and godbye.
Best wishes,
Steve
