I have a network of Windows XP computers with a Domain running windows
server 2000. Most of the computers do not have a problem however two
computers cannot be accessed over the network. These two computers
also cannot be pinged however they can access everything on the
network from their computer.

When a computer can't be pinged, the most likely problem is that a
firewall program on that computer is blocking access.

That was my first thought, however the only firewall running on the
computer is Norton Anit-Virus, which I am unable to turn off, also
other computers in the office run the same version of Norton.

Recent versions of Norton Antivirus have a firewall component called
"Internet Worm Protection". Is that what you have?

In any case, you should be able to configure the firewall to allow
access by other computers on the network.

I have similar symptoms. In looking deeper, I find lots of other things
wrong, with what appeared to be a 'working' PC. Eg ...

- opening the adapter's icon in 'network connections' takes a couple of
minutes.

- When I open the 'advanced' tab in the adapter's 'properties' dialog, I
get a "WMI corrupted" message.

- When I run WMIdiag, it says "WINMGMT failed to start".

- When I select 'manage' for 'my computer' (right-click), I get an
"access denied" message, even though I'm the administrator.

.... etc.

Not to say that your case is the same; but, you might find you have a
more systemic problems. I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that
the only thing for me is re-install xp.

If you do fix it, pls post your results.

Thanks,
George

I don't have those issues, other than I am unable to manage the
computer from the domain. This caused because domain cannot find the
computer. Since this has actually been a problem since the server was
set up, we are going to upgrade to 2003 and hope that this fixes the
problems. If not we are then going to re-install XP and go from there.
