Computer wont start!

My computer crashed and now only gives the following
message despite trying esc. F1 F4 del keys during start up:

Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:

< windows root> \system32\ntoskrnl.exe

My computer crashed and now only gives the following
message despite trying esc. F1 F4 del keys during start up:

Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:

< windows root> \system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Make sure there isn't a diskette in the floppy drive.

You may have to boot using the Windows XP install CD and use the second
Repair option (the first one just drops you into Recovery Console mode)
to perform an in-place upgrade that should restore the missing or
damaged files (and then follow with Windows Update). See
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315341 (the first Repair is in step 3,
so get to step 5's Repair by just hitting Enter at step 3).

If you have a 'proper' XP CD, not a maker's restore one, Set the BIOS to
boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take
the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password requested is blank, and
TAB over.

Give
Expand D:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

(This presumes the CD is there seen as D:, which is probable)
