I powered up my computer today and the screen I get says "Starting Windows
95" on a black screen. At the bottom of the screen there is a message that
says "System Error". Then it looks as if I'm in DOS. I can type but nothing
happens except the error message keeps repeating. My computer is an HP
Pavilion and the funny thing is that I'm not running windows 95, I'm running
XP. I can't seem to find my system restoration CD and don't know what else to
try.

If you can get to Safe Mode you could try a System Restore to an earlier
date. Did the computer originally ship with Windows 95 installed?

Two questions: how do I get into safe mode? Then where do I go to restore the
system? The computer came with XP, my husband set it up and he could probably
figure it out but he's in Germany until June. I have no idea how to fix this.

The restoration cd is kind of like the car keys , you don't want to lose
them. Buy a XP cd and hang on to it. You need one this time and probably in
the future. JJ
