Computer will not start with NIC card installed

I have a Dimension 8200 that came with an Ethernet card in a PCI slot. I
later installed a Firewire 1394. The 8200 functioned OK with both cards
installed for over one year. One day the 8200 would not power up. My first
thought was that the power supply was gone. However, after removing all the
cards, I was surprised because it did power up. I then started inserting one
card at a time and I determined that as long as the Ethernet card was
installed it would not power up. I have since removed the Firewire card burt
still, as long as the Ethernet card is in any PCI slot the 8200 will not
power on. I have tried a new Ethernet Card but still have the same problem.
There must be some conflict at the BIOS level that is preventing the power up.

Unplug power, remove CMOS battery, wait at least 5 minutes, plug
battery back in. TRy the new ethernet card again.

If no joy, you can try a bios upgrade.

If no joy. Look for any screws or other metal thingies lodged under the
motherboard. There could be a short somewhere.

If still no joy, it's possessed. Call an exorcist.
